After a unanimous vote of its Board of Directors, CCEBA has joined a settlement stipulation with Duke Energy, the NC Public Staff, and WalMart in the 2024 Carbon Plan proceedings before the NC Utilities Commission.

This stipulation commits Duke Energy to increasing the amount of clean, reliable, affordable solar energy and battery storage on their system through 2030.

It also provides an opportunity to upgrade a large number of existing small solar facilities that are approaching the end of their contract terms with Duke.

Finally, the settlement commits Duke Energy to continued reform of its transmission planning process, which should make it simpler to efficiently add renewable energy to the grid and serve Carolinas ratepayers in the future.

All settlements are compromises, and we believe this one moves the ball forward. This settlement is still subject to approval by the NC Utilities Commission, which will hold hearings in the coming weeks on North Carolina’s long-term energy plans. CCEBA will continue to advocate for the retirement of dirty fossil fuel generation and the promotion of clean, reliable, affordable, renewable energy in the Carolinas.
